Also called “The Pearl of Adriatic”, Dubrovnik became an important Mediterranean sea power in 13th century. Although it suffered severe earthquake in 1667, many beautiful Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains are preserved. The city has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and every day attracts more tourists.
